General travel information gathered from official sources. Entry and permit rules change, so always confirm with us before you travel.

The trip

Where does the trip start?

In Namibe (Moçâmedes), Angola. You meet Boeta there.

Is it guided or self-drive?

Self-drive. You drive your own vehicle and fish with Boeta. Based in Namibia, he can help with the drive in.

What is the group size?

Minimum 6 people per tour.

When are the trips?

Six 7-day weeks between 6 June and 21 August 2027. See the tour page.

How do I book?

Send a booking request. Boeta confirms availability, pricing and terms with you directly. No payment is taken on this website.

Visas & passports

Do I need a visa for Angola?

Angola exempts citizens of a list of countries (including the UK, the US, all EU countries and, by bilateral agreement, South Africa) from a tourist visa for stays of up to 30 days per entry and 90 days per year. Other nationalities need a tourist visa, which can be applied for through Angola's official eVisa portal. Check your own nationality against the official list. Rules can change: confirm with us before travel.

Do I need a visa for Namibia?

Since 1 April 2025 many nationalities, including UK, US, Canadian, Australian and most EU passport holders, need a visa for Namibia. Eligible travellers can buy a visa on arrival at designated ports of entry (including Oshikango) or apply online for an e-visa before travel and carry a printed copy. Some countries, such as South Africa and Angola, are visa-exempt. Check the Namibian Ministry of Home Affairs list for your passport. Rules can change: confirm with us before travel.

What about my passport?

The UK government advises that your passport should be valid for at least 6 months after arrival in both countries, with at least 2 blank pages for Angola and 3 for Namibia. Requirements can differ by nationality. Rules can change: confirm with us before travel.

Vehicle & driving

What vehicle do I need?

Details for this tour are coming soon: ask Boeta. In general, the coast south of Tômbua through Iona National Park is remote, sandy and tide-dependent, and official travel advice recommends a roadworthy 4x4, spare tyres and travelling in convoys of at least two vehicles outside urban centres. Rules can change: confirm with us before travel.

What documents should I carry in the car?

The UK government advises carrying your driving licence, an International Driving Permit (1949 version), and vehicle ownership and insurance documents in Angola: police checkpoints are frequent. Rules can change: confirm with us before travel.

Taking a foreign-registered vehicle through Namibia?

All foreign-registered vehicles entering Namibia must pay a Cross-Border Charge and get a permit at the Road Fund Administration office at the border post, keep it in the vehicle, and hand it in when leaving. Rules can change: confirm with us before travel.

Is it safe to drive off the track?

No. Official advice for Angola is to stay on established roads and routes: landmines and unexploded ordnance remain a risk outside urban areas. Avoid driving at night. Rules can change: confirm with us before travel.

Fishing & permits

Do I need a fishing licence in Angola?

Yes. Under Angola's Recreational and Sport Fishing Regulation (Presidential Decree 146/13), recreational fishing requires a prior annual, personal, non-transferable licence issued by the fisheries ministry, for nationals and foreigners alike. Ask Boeta how licences are handled for this tour. Rules can change: confirm with us before travel.

Is there anything special about Iona National Park?

Iona National Park, in Angola's far south-west, borders Namibia's Skeleton Coast National Park and has been managed by African Parks in partnership with the Angolan government since 2020. Ask Boeta about park entry for this tour. Rules can change: confirm with us before travel.

What gear should I bring?

A gear list for this tour is coming soon: ask Boeta. The fishing is from the shore: garrick and elf in the surf, big kob at Iona on paddletails and bait, and bronze whalers.
